PRADA’S NAPPA TOTE IS A NO-GO

The style savvy designers over at Prada are, of course, ready with their new fall line. However, if you really want to see some serious Prada handbags, then you need to check out the designs for the fall runway. These go above and beyond the whole idea of haute couture. Case in point: the lovely, lacy Nappa tote. It is made with black nappa leather – or nero nappa leather, if you prefer to stay true to the lingo. The lace edging and accent work is asymmetrical, despite the fact that asymmetry is going the way of spandex and poly cotton blends.
I am personally torn about this bag. On the one hand, it is certainly stylish and arguably elegant. On the other hand, it looks like something a seventeen year old girl would buy from one of those horrible, high end girly stores, filled with prom accessories – cubic zirconias masquerading as diamonds and frou frou little bags like this masquerading as something better. On the other hand, I think we can all be grateful that it is not done up in ostrich feathers or fake plumage, n’est-ce pas?
All that said, it still makes sense to have it on the runway – it’s enough to draw the eye, yet not so powerful that it will steal the attention away from the clothes. Given the enormous popularity of Prada handbags, though, it’s a safe bet that it will never stay on the runway – one of our favorite celebrities will probably be strolling down the street with it next week, like it actually goes with her jeans.
